Prenatal & Postnatal Massage in Calgary — Safe Support for Every Stage
Specially adapted massage for pregnancy and postpartum recovery — reducing discomfort, improving sleep, and supporting your body through one of its most demanding transitions.
Massage Adapted for Your Changing Body
Prenatal massage uses modified positioning, techniques, and pressure specifically designed for pregnant bodies. We use a side-lying position with supportive bolsters — never face-down — and avoid any points that are contraindicated during pregnancy. Your RMT will review your stage of pregnancy and any concerns at the start of every session. Postnatal treatments support recovery from birth and address the particular demands of caring for a newborn.
How Prenatal Massage Supports You
Safe, Comfortable & Adapted for You
All positioning uses proper bolstering in a side-lying posture — never face-down. Pressure is appropriate for your trimester and comfort level, adjusted throughout.
For postnatal clients, treatments can begin as early as a few days after vaginal birth (or 6 weeks after C-section with medical clearance). We also accommodate babies in the room if needed.
Prenatal Health Check-In
Your RMT reviews your pregnancy stage, any complications, and your OB or midwife’s guidance before beginning.
Safe Side-Lying Position
You’re bolstered comfortably on your side with support under the bump, knees, and head — a position many clients find more comfortable than face-down anyway.
Targeted Treatment
Focus on the lower back, hips, legs, and shoulders — the areas most affected by the physical demands of pregnancy.
Aftercare Guidance
Recommendations for stretches, positioning, and when to return based on your stage and concerns.
Common Questions
Many RMTs treat clients in all trimesters without issue. We ask that you inform us of your exact stage and any complications. If your care provider has advised against massage, follow their guidance and bring a note if needed.
Certain acupressure points on the ankles, wrists, and lower back are avoided as they are traditionally associated with uterine stimulation. Direct abdominal massage is also modified or avoided depending on trimester.
Yes — many clients find the third trimester is when they benefit most from massage. Side-lying positioning is very effective for the lower back, hip, and leg discomfort that peaks in later pregnancy.
Typically a few days after uncomplicated vaginal delivery, or 6 weeks after caesarean section with medical clearance. We adapt pressure and positioning for postnatal recovery.
